Easco, a leading technology company, has reinforced its commitment to accessible technology by completing a comprehensive training series on disability awareness and inclusion. This initiative aims to ensure Easco’s products are user-friendly and accessible for individuals with disabilities.
The ‘Disability Awareness by AbilityWise’ training provided Easco employees with valuable insights into a wide range of disabilities and neurodiverse conditions, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), dyslexia, visual and hearing impairments, and mental health conditions. The sessions also explored the social model of disability, which emphasises that societal barriers, rather than individual limitations, are the primary cause of disability.
A key focus of the training was the critical role of assistive technologies and universal design in creating inclusive environments. Participants learned about various assistive devices and the principles of universal design, which aim to make products and environments usable by all people, regardless of their abilities.
‘At Easco, we firmly believe that technology should be accessible to everyone, regardless of their abilities,’ said Lee, CEO of Easco. ‘This training has equipped our team with the knowledge and understanding needed to design products that truly meet the needs of individuals with disabilities. We are committed to leading the way in inclusive design and empowering people through technology.’
The training also offered practical guidance on appropriate communication and etiquette when interacting with people with disabilities, stressing the importance of respect, understanding, and focusing on individual abilities rather than limitations.
Easco’s investment in disability awareness training reflects its broader commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. By fostering a deeper understanding of the challenges individuals with disabilities face, the company aims to create a more inclusive workplace and develop technology solutions that empower all.
